She stood there in shock, not believing the words she was hearing. Her twin brothers were dead. Both of them. The same two little babies that she had often carried around, tied to her own back, were gone. Forever. She had come back to visit them and they were no longer here. As she knelt by their little cement grave markers, her mind filled with questions. When did this happen? Why and How? Why didn't anyone tell me? Why couldn't it have been me? If I had been here, could I have stopped this?
Egulasi Grace Adong, who was welcomed to live at Lulwanda Children's Home almost four years ago, has many unanswered questions. These particular ones came to her mind on a recent visit to her village home. There is one question we know the answer to: "Why wasn't it me?" Because of God's plan and purpose for her life; plans to prosper her and not to harm her. Because He rescued her from a life of poverty, sickness and possible death. Her new home was made possible because believers on the other side of the world were obedient in starting an orphanage, obedient in sponsoring children and obedient to do whatever God was calling them to do.
Egulasi, still suffering occasional panic attacks brought on by her difficult childhood memories, has many things to grieve. But she is safe, well-fed, educated and best of all LOVED. Not only Egulasi, but also one of her brothers, Clement, who was brought to Lulwanda with her. Egulasi and Clement were the lucky ones in their family because they were HIV negative. Their mother and their twin brothers now gone, were not so fortunate.
Without our sponsors and supporters, the children wouldn't be in Lulwanda or maybe even on this earth. But with sponsors and supporters, God can do the impossible and unimaginable.
There are many more orphaned and vulnerable children in Uganda who need to be rescued. There are more cries to be heard, tears to be dried, minds to be educated, mouths to be fed, wounds to be bandaged and hearts to be filled with Jesus. God willing, we will rescue more of these desperate children in 2015.
Currently we are following the Lord's leading to make room for more young orphans at Lulwanda and at the same time satisfy the needs of some of our older children. We want to help them begin the process of standing strong on their own as they transition to becoming productive members of society.
